This week has been challenging. Aside from the time change, a full moon, and Friday the 13th, we've also dealt with lice at school (not in my classroom at this point), and students home sick with colds/coughs. Thank you for keeping your child home until they are healthy. We are diligently wiping desks, hands, and removed all cloth beanbags and stuffed animals from the classroom.
Learning is continuing, however. We are discussing farm animals in Kindergarten. So far we have discussed cows and pigs. We are also working on subtracting and ten-frames. In First Grade, we are working on counting on, subtracting, and word problems. We are also working on making a correct sentence with spacing, periods, lower case letters, and complete sentences.
Next week is Spring Conferences. I've already talked with you if I am requesting a conference. Students have a regular day on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday-Friday Kindergarten attends 8-10:30. First Grade attends 8:20-12:10.
If you happen to find large bottles of hand sanitizer, I could use some.
March 6
This week we have been focusing on Words Matter--being kind, respectful, positive, etc. We have had some wonderful discussions on what is "kind" and what is "unkind". It has been fun watching the kids dress up each day.
We have a visiting leprechaun-Patrick. Ask your child about him. They are enjoying his visit.
Spring Conferences are coming up. They are OPTIONAL. You will receive an email from me if I feel the need to conference with you about your child.
Don't forget to Spring forward on Sunday morning. Daylight Savings time!!
During Math we are discussing tens and ones, as well as ten frames. Students have a good grasp of this concept.
In Kindergarten, we are discussing farms in preparation for our field trip on April 2nd. Please turn in permission slips and payment, if you haven't already.
In. First Grade, our focus has been on writing and opinions.

Thank you, again, for all the birthday wishes, gift cards, flowers, succulents, candy, cakes, etc. I felt truly appreciated. Funny story--the class asked how old I was and I told them "104". A student piped up and said "or a little less." Happy to know they don't think I'm over 100.
Remember that this is a 3-day weekend. Enjoy yourselves.

This has been quite a week. We have accomplished a lot. On Thursday, students had their first Earthquake drill. Hard to believe it was 30 years ago when the Loma Prieta Earthquake hit. I remember it well.
Your SquareOne art, that your child designed, is in your Friday Folder. They are adorable. This is a great chance to order gifts for the Holidays. I am asking each family to please send in one of the sticker to me. I would like to make a collage out of it. THANK YOU
Kindergarten--Your sight words will be in the Homework folder. Each child also has 2 books that they are supposed to be reading throughout the week--these are the half-size books without names on them. They should have been returned in the Homework folder. I will send home new books on Monday--if your child has returned the previous ones. They will also have an individualized Sight word list.
Wednesday is the 50th day of school. Children can come to school dressed from the 50's.
Math has been continuing to count on, write numbers correctly, and adding simple numbers.
First Grade--Students will also be getting a sight word list that they should practice reading throughout the week. Many students did this same thing in Kindergarten, but now the words are a little more difficult. They also need to return the books that were sent home in the Homework folder. They will get new books on Monday.
Our math has focused on doubling numbers, subtraction, and using a number line.
During our Writing time, I introduced a spelling dictionary. They are enjoying finding words in the book and looking for their current sight words.
Students may also dress from the 50's, if they choose.

We have been practicing letter formation, and sounds this week. I have also had them writing stories, which will be shared at Conferences.

We've had a busy week and survived extreme heat. I introduced Writing to them. They are writing stories, with a beginning, middle, and end. They are doing a great job with this new concept. In 1st grade Math, we are working on forming numbers correctly and counting on. We are also working on word problems. Kindergarten math has focused on writing letters correctly and learning shapes and attributes.

Kindergarten homework--I started a week early, therefore we are ahead of the other classes. There is NO homework sheet this week. It is a good time to get your students doing Raz-kids or Xtramath. Information about both programs, including your child's user name and password have gone home in past Friday folders.
1st grade parents--please send your child with an afternoon snack. They are continuing to work until 2:45 and many are saying they are tired. A healthy treat a recess will help re-energize them.
Sept. 20
This has been a great week. All students attended an assembly--Dance from AXIS--which was a combination of dancers with disabilities and people with no disabilities. Students were able to see 2 people in wheelchairs dancing, one without an arm doing dance moves, etc. It was wonderful.
In the Friday Folders are several books that students have been reading in class. They should be able to read the books. Please find a safe place for them so they can continue to read them or color them. I suggest a shoe box or small plastic container.
Friday is Camp Golden View. It will be a lot of fun.
Next week is a regular week, although I will have a substitute for a couple of hours on Tuesday, while I attend a meeting.
Kindergarten---Friday was apple day. We have read a lot of Apple stories, and talked a lot about it. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help. I believe we had 7 parents volunteer!!! Thank you so much. Please send me the pics so I can put them on my website. It was a lot of fun. We have also been working on letter formation and sounds. Each student also wrote a story for the first time. During Math we are working on matching numbers to objects.
1st graders--We have been working on correct letter formation, math skills where the = sign is not always at the end of a number sentence, and writing. We are also working on letter sounds and blending them to make words. I have had them write stories for me.

Our time for Apple "camp" is 8:30-9:45. Everything will be in K-1 and K-2. Please check in with Mrs. Judice, K-2, so that she can place you where she needs help.
1st graders--We have started our Phonics Program--Fundations. It begins with correct letter formation and letter sounds.
In the Friday Folder is an Xtramath flyer. It explains a program that can be used at home to help learn basic math facts. Each child has their own account and PIN number. They flyer will explain how to set it up at home. This is NOT required homework, but very helpful!!
Many 1st grade students are NOT bringing an afternoon snack. Every afternoon, 1st graders have PE or Science from 12:55-1:45, followed by recess. They need food for energy and brain power. Please send them a healthy afternoon snack.
September 6
We have accomplished a lot this week. First Graders started homework. It was due today. Most remembered to return their homework. Kindergarten will begin homework on Monday. (There is an error. It says to read Sight Words on Tuesday. We haven't started Sight Words yet. Disregard) It is always due on Friday!!
Library books are also due on Monday. Our Library day is on Wednesday. First grade students have received Raz-kids information. Kindergarten raz-kids information is in the Friday folder.
Thank you to those who have paid $10 for the t-shirts. If you haven't, it would be appreciated. We use the t-shirts every week and will be doing a t-shirt project at the end of the year.
You should have received an email from my room parents--Trissie Kiefer, Kelly Sheridan, and Sarah Elder. (Thank you for stepping up and volunteering).
We all attended an assembly for Soul Shoppe. It is a program that helps students with social and emotional needs. They learned how to "empty their balloon". Basically, students need a place to decompress when they feel overwhelmed. Maybe its a quiet place to be alone, draw, listen to music, talk to friends, etc.
Kindergarten: Apple Day is September 20th. There are two forms for you to fill out. Please return them on Monday.
Camp Golden is also on September 20th. It is a fun afternoon. Hope you can join us.
Have a wonderful weekend. Don't forget to check out my picture page on website.
August 30
It has been great having the students on a semi-regular schedule. Friday folders will be FULL this week. There is a lot of school work and information. Remember that Monday is a holiday so please return Folders on Tuesday. Enjoy your 3-day weekend.
There was some confusion over the t-shirts students wear on Wednesdays. I have ordered t-shirts for ALL students, not just Kindergarten. 1st graders also wear their shirts--other 1st grade classes are also ordering shirts. Since the shirts were paid for in advance, money was taken from the classroom budget. It is incredibly helpful if you could send in $10 to cover the cost, as well as for a t-shirt project in the spring. Thank you to those of you who have contributed.
There is Star Of The Week information going home. On the back is the date your child is the "Star".
If you haven't signed up for a Fall Conference, go to www.signup genius.com, search for my email, and sign up.
Kindergarten---You have a September calendar. Please post it in a place that you will not lose it. We have begun math, writing, leveled reading, and Science this week. I am impressed at what your child knows and how much effort they give me. Homework will start on Sept. 16th.
1st Grade--Homework starts September 3. It is in a Homework Folder that will be sent home Monday. I am sending home Addition and Subtraction flashcards. Please have your child cut them out, write the answer on the back, and put in a baggie. This is for you to use at HOME. Students should be practicing their math facts. If your child did Raz-kids last year, I have moved them to my class. I am mswright4. I did not change passwords or levels. If your child is new to Golden View, I will set them up this weekend. I will send home cards with passwords, user name, etc on Tuesday with homework.
August 23
Two weeks down. I am starting to see each child's personality as they become more comfortable and make new friends. I know all of their names, but haven't completely matched children with parents. If you email me, please tell me who your child is. I appreciate the help.
Please go through your child's Friday folder, and return the folder on Monday.
Last week, I sent home a t-shirt information sheet. If you have not had a chance to send in $10 for the shirts, it would be appreciated. Every Wednesday, each child will be wear and Golden View Purple shirt!!

It is very important to return your Friday Folder each week. If I do not have it by Friday, everything will be clipped together with a paper clip until it is returned. It is the purple or blue plastic folder from Back to School Night.
As I mentioned at Back to School night, I would love to post pictures on this website. If you are fine with that, there is nothing that you need to do. If you are opposed, please send me an email and I will not take pictures of your child.
I am looking for a parent who is willing to bring home out t-shirts every Wednesday, wash them, and return them before the next Wednesday. If you are willing, please let me know.
I hope the weather cools off this weekend and next week. The students have been great about drinking water and staying in the shade.
