Welcome to Room 4 where all students are special!! I am excited to have you here and am looking forward to working with your student this year. Room 4 will be full of fun and excitement as well as hard work. You will be amazed at just how much your child will grow this year. Most likely, your child has had the foundation of reading and writing planted, and during second grade, that foundation will grow and blossom, making your child a more accomplished reader and writer! You will see changes in your child's thinking, as he/she becomes familiar with abstract concepts and symbols. What an exciting growth to watch this year!
Some Important Tips It is important that your child become independent. This means they carry their backpack, hang it up outside Room 4, , hang up jackets, turn in homework and library books, and keep track of their items. I ask that parents say their "goodbye" while on the playground and "hello" at the end of the day at the front of the school.
Your child will need a small, healthy snack each day, packed SEPARATELY from lunch in a bag or sack with his/her name on it. Lunches should be in a lunch box or bag with the name on the OUTSIDE. If your child is buying lunch, please send the money in an envelope or baggy with your child's name written on it. Your child will need his/her backpack EVERY day, and the name needs to be written in pen somewhere in the backpack! Put names in all clothes! It makes it so much easier to return them to their rightful owner.
Helping Your 2nd Grader: Staying involved in your child's education is the key to a successful year. Engage your child in conversation about his/her day, but know that children won't always give out much information. I will post my newsletters on this website entitled "Ms. Wright Room 4" detailing our activities from class. You can use this as a springboard for discussion; instead of saying "What did you do at school today?" (the answer is often "nothing!"), you can say, "Oh, I see you're learning about....what did you find out?" Some parents save these newsletters as a special remembrance of their child's first grade year.
Another way to stay involved is to check your child's Friday folder each weekend. You'll usually find it filled with work, special project directions, and reading materials. You will also find flyers, notices from the office, as well as notes from me, newsletters, and your child’s work from the week. As daunting as it may be, try to sort through them, and read each one; they often contain important information and reminders.
Your child should return an empty Friday Folder unless it contains notes or forms for me.
Parent/Teacher CommunicationI encourage you to contact me through email if you have any questions, concerns, or great ideas. This is the preferred method of communication this year, as it is convenient for me to check email at least twice a day and quickly respond. My email is [email protected].I am looking forward to watching your child grow and succeed this year!Again, Welcome to Room 4!
